History at Brigstock Latham’s CE Primary School

Believe ~ Grow ~ Flourish

“Jesus came to give us life, life in all its fullness”

Our History curriculum at Brigstock Latham’s Primary School has been specifically developed to inspire our children’s curiosity about the past.

It is our belief that our children will gain an excellent knowledge of people, places and events from a range of historical periods, as well as deepening their understanding of how historical events have shaped the world in which they currently live.

Our History curriculum follows units outlined in the Historical Association and has been carefully selected to enable our children to experience ‘Life in all its Fullness’. By providing our children with a broad and challenging range of Historical learning experiences, we intend to develop their passion for history and broaden their understanding through research, visits to significant places, visitors and creative activities. We involve our wider school community including parents and carers to share their historical background and experiences. We promote the Fundamental British Values as well as the school values through these experiences.

Children will have grown their understanding of the history of Britain and the wider world. They will have developed skills that will equip them with the understanding of chronology, historical vocabulary and the ways in which the past can be communicated. These skills will enable children to flourish in all that they go on to achieve after their time at Brigstock. The visits and extra-curricular interactions will give children the opportunities to see how Historical skills can be used in the wider world, enabling children to flourish.
