Believe ~ Grow ~ Flourish

“Jesus came to give us life, life in all its fullness”

Reading at Brigstock:

At Brigstock School, we believe that reading is the cornerstone of education, enabling students to grow and flourish in life. Our aim is to foster a love for reading that will last a lifetime, encouraging students to explore diverse genres and perspectives that have been carefully planned using the Literacy Tree Pedagogy. We strive to cultivate critical thinking and comprehension skills, ensuring that every student experiences life in all its fullness through the power of literature.

To achieve this, we implement the Literacy Tree pedagogy, which provides a structured and engaging approach to reading. Our curriculum includes a wide range of texts, from classic literature to contemporary works, ensuring that students are exposed to various styles and themes. We incorporate interactive activities, discussions, and projects that make reading an active and enjoyable process. Regular ‘Instant Publish pieces’ help us tailor support to individual needs, ensuring that every student can progress confidently.

The impact of our reading program is evident in the students' enhanced vocabulary, improved comprehension, and increased enthusiasm for reading. By believing in their potential, we see our students grow into confident readers who can critically analyse texts and express their thoughts effectively. This foundation in reading not only supports their academic achievements but also enriches their personal lives, allowing them to flourish and experience life in all its fullness.

Writing at Brigstock:

At Brigstock School, we believe that writing is a vital skill that empowers students to communicate their ideas clearly and creatively. Our goal is to nurture confident writers who can express themselves effectively across various contexts. We aim to develop students' ability to craft well-structured, coherent, and imaginative pieces of writing, enabling them to grow and flourish in their academic and personal lives.

Our writing curriculum, supported by the Literacy Tree, provides a comprehensive framework for developing writing skills. We focus on teaching the fundamentals of grammar, punctuation, and spelling (Vocabulary Ninja), alongside encouraging creativity and originality. Through a variety of writing tasks, including narratives, reports, and persuasive texts, students practice and refine their skills. Collaborative activities, peer reviews, and teacher feedback are integral to our approach, ensuring that students receive constructive guidance and support.

The impact of our writing program is reflected in the students' ability to produce high-quality written work that demonstrates clarity, creativity, and coherence. By believing in their abilities, we witness our students grow into articulate writers who can effectively convey their ideas and emotions. This proficiency in writing not only enhances their academic performance but also equips them with essential communication skills for life, allowing them to flourish and experience life in all its fullness.
